After getting settled into the Windsor Arms Hotel in Toronto, Ontario, my daughter, Sarah, and I decided to stay close to this downtown part of the city and walk around the famous Bloor Street area.
Called by some the “Fashion Mile,” Bloor Street was lined with famous stores as well as museums including Royal Ontario Museum or the ROM.

But before heading anywhere else, I knew that walking the few blocks to the Bata Shoe Museum was a must for Sarah who would be attending the Fashion Institute of Technology very shortly.
I wasn’t sure what to expect, but this small multilevel structure was packed with fascinating information about shoes along with a large eclectic collection of footwear from ancient times to those once owned by celebrities. The sneaker exhibit was also interesting.
We had a good time, but we were getting pretty hungry so we headed off by taxi to the Liberty Village area to visit Mildred’s Temple Kitchen where we’s been invited to have dinner.

The interior was bright and industrial, but also fun. And the staff was friendly as they served us wonderful dishes of their own take on duck salad, chicken biryani and braised boar.

It was a nice end to our first day in Toronto. We were looking forward to exploring more of this city and using the CityPass tickets that we had been given for a faster access into some of the attractions.
Next: Pedestrian Sunday at Kennsington Market, Chinatown, CityPASS, the ROM, dinner at Marche and the CN Tower

I LOVED Toronto, and the City Pass, though we packed too much into too little time. http://www.rogerogreen.com/2011/09/21/toronto-the-city-pass/ and http://www.rogerogreen.com/2011/09/22/toronto-the-city-pass-part-2/

in fact, after I wrote about City Pass, the City Pass people e-mailed me and had me submit my pieces to their website, which I did.
