The U.N. Delegates Dining Room-unique dining experience

One of my favorite places to eat in New York City is the UN Delegates Dining Room. Located in the United Nations Headquarters in Manhattan, this restaurant not only serves a good international lunch buffet, but it also provides a truly unique experience. You eat among delegates from all over the world in a room of floor to ceiling windows that provide a fantastic view of the East River.

Location: United Nations Building
4th Floor
New York, NY 10017

Hours: Monday through Friday
11:30 AM – 2:30 PM

Note: The restaurant advertises that children under 12 years-old are not allowed.

Travel Gal Tips:

1) You must call 24 hours in advance to make the reservation. (212) 963-7625 or (212) 963-7626

2) Be prepared that men are required to wear jackets, and that the restaurant does not want you to wear sneakers or jeans.

3) After you’ve gone through initial security (i.e. baggage check and metal detector), go to the information booth and give them your name.

4) Somebody in your party must provide Security a form of identification such as a driver’s license.

5) Security will hold that I.D. and trade you a badge.

6) This badge is cool because it appears to all of the tourists as if you’re one of the delegates!

7) Go through another security station down the hall and take the elevator to the fourth floor.

8)  Check in and dine on international dishes from two buffet tables, one of which provides delicious desserts.

9) The cost last year was around $28.00 per person. Be prepared that everything including coffee is extra.

10) When you’re  finished, don’t forget to go back to security to retrieve your ID.
