New York State Tourism wants us to know that New York is home to prime foliage across the state. Every year travelers gather to witness one of nature’s most captivating phenomena, the evolution of fall foliage. Whatever way you prefer to see your autumnal leaves, one of NY’s 11 vacation regions is sure to have the leaf-viewing experience you desire.
Here are just a handful of ideas:
By Air
Not for the faint of heart, a personal helicopter tour from High Flying Fall Foliage or a hot air balloon with Fantasy Balloon Flights provide a bird’s-eye view of the changing leaves in Hudson Valley. In Western NY, the chairlifts and ziplines at ski resorts like Peek ‘n Peak and Holiday Valley, open year-round, invite you to immerse yourself among the changing leaves.
By Rail
Get a window seat if you plan to experience fall by rail – the Adirondack Scenic Railroad takes you through the magnificent splendor of Adirondack Park’s natural beauty. The Cooperstown & Charlotte Valley Railroad’s Pumpkin Patch Train will impress parents with the area’s foliage while the kids can admire the pumpkin patch along the route.
By Car
Prefer to be in the driver’s seat? Take in the Scenic Byway’s breathtaking vistas along Erie Canal’s Mohawk Towpath, Cayuga Lake’s countless vineyards, or Upper Delaware’s quiet villages. Or cruise the Palisades Parkway to Bear Mountain State Park’s rugged mountains.
By Boat
Fall boat cruises make for an especially romantic leaf-peeping setting. Schooner Excursions sail the crystal waters of Seneca Lake while riders take in the reds, oranges and yellows of the Finger Lakes’ former greenery.
