Knowing how much to tip while traveling can be a confusing dilemma.
The New York Times notes that Josh Alexander of Protravel has provided several guidelines for tipping:
At Hotels Tip Directly: Tip the employee directly with $5.00 per day for housekeeping.
Use a Worldwide Standard for Guides and Drivers: Mr. Alexander suggests that you tip an English speaking guide who spends the day with you $25-$50.
Cruises and Train Trips are in a separate Category: Mr. Alexander suggests you tip $20 per day because these staff members are attending to you throughout your stay.
