The New York Post has reported that a private industry workshop of a new musical based on the HBO series True Blood was held in New York City.
The new show features music by Yaddo alum Nathan Barr, who scored the television series, with a book and lyrics by Elizabeth Scott (Living Dead Girl). Pam MacKinnon (China Doll) reportedly helmed the workshop. The workshop cast featured Broadway veterans Claybourne Elder (Bonnie & Clyde) and Ann Harada (Avenue Q).
In June of 2012, Mr. Barr and author Will Hermes entertained friends and supporters at Yaddo’s sold-out summer benefit in Saratoga Springs, New York. During his performance, the composer mentioned his hopes for a True Blood musical.
And, no, I’m not making this up: During Yaddo’s after party I had the opportunity to speak with Mr. Barr. As we started talking outside the mansion about music and the television series, a bat flew right over our heads.
