OK: It had to happen eventually. It was only a matter of time before our freakishly warm winter weather would return to its normally frigid temperature.

Fortunately, though, we still have quick getaways to warmer climates. Last month, I was invited by jetBlue to take its first nonstop trip from Albany, New York to Fort Lauderdale. The relatively short and inexpensive flight was comfortable with free DirectTV entertainment and workable WiFi.
I was happy to travel back to Fort Lauderdale because this popular destination has a lot to offer including beautiful beaches, foodie finds, interesting cultural exhibits, and even a bit of adventure. After arriving, I checked into the Westin Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort. The room was very nice, and, after settling in, it was great to simply cross the street and walk along the area’s beautiful boardwalk.

Then later it was on to dinner at the Blue Moon Fish Company. Located right on the area’s intercostal waterway, this recently remodeled restaurant has been featured on Food Network, and I loved trying its fresh seafood dishes along with its delicious desserts.

The next day, we started the day by having a great breakfast at O-B House in the historic downtown area. This cozy non-tipping restaurant had some great selections including this huge delicious Florida Corn Oven Pancake complete with Vermont maple syrup.

Then it was time for a little adventure, and we took an Everglades airboat ride at the Sawgrass Recreation Park.

I felt a little like I was in a James Bond movie as we quickly skimmed the water, stopping a few times to learn the history of the area and to (safely!) view the wild life including the alligators that lived there.

Great trip so far but even more foodie fun, adventure and culture was ahead that day and the next.
Next: More of Fort Lauderdale.
