Because of better deals created by the falling Euro, this has been a banner year for travel to Europe.
My family and I are headed to Italy later this summer. So I enjoyed reading Stephanie Rosenbloom’s interesting piece that tries to answer some common questions about visiting this and other European destinations:
Charges in Euro or U.S. dollars? Ms. Rosenbloom advises us to resist charging in U.S. dollars because there may be a mark up on the currency conversion rate as well as a service fee.
New International Luggage rules: need smaller carry-0n? Ms. Rosenbloom discusses the new guidelines instituted this June by the International Air Transport Association. This organization wants us to use smaller carry-ons with the dimensions of 21.5 by 13.5 by 7.5 inches for planes with 120 or more seats. We’re ok right now, but she suggests that we be wary of buying any more larger carry-on pieces in the future for this form of travel.
Uber: Yes or No? There are problems with this taxi service in Europe especially because of the demonstrations and ensuing violence committed by protesting taxi drivers. You may wish to avoid this option or at least keep alert for more demonstrations.
