I had a great time last week attending AARP’s Life@50+ National Event and Expo at Miami’s Convention Center. This event was visited by thousands of individuals who, among other interests, wished to learn more about the many discounts provided by AARP Services Inc.
Of course I was very eager to learn more about the travel savings that an AARP member can receive. Travel deals are always great, but especially so when we start moving into that stage in our lives when we might wish to retire on a fixed income. That’s when we could use those discounts even more to make our travel dreams a reality.

The afternoon before the the start of this multi-day event, I checked into the Palms Hotel and Spa,a beautiful resort that overlooked the Atlantic Ocean. The great reviews were warranted, but I especially liked the pretty beach walk behind this property.

Usually when I’ve traveled to a hotel located on ocean front property, I’ve needed to walk in the hot sand to move up and down the coast. Here, though, with its pretty design and bits of shade, the beach walk made it much easier to make the 18 minute walk to the city’s Lincoln Road Mall area that was dotted with restaurants and stores.
Later that night, I had the opportunity to meet up with a very nice group of bloggers from around the country who had also been invited by AARP Services, Inc. to cover this event. We dined at The Oceanaire Seafood Restaurant and met Executive Chef, Kareem Anguin, who said that he was proud to provide the freshest seafood called the “top-of-the-catch”.
This was a foodie delight, and I loved the Jerked Open Blue Panama Cobia. For future reference too, we were told that AARP members received a 10% discount to this restaurant which has twelve other locations around the country . Wonderful dinner and great new friends, but the best was yet to come with the start of the next day’s convention.
NEXT: So many AARP travel discounts!
