On the third day of our adventure we woke up early to catch what Reykjavik Expeditions has promoted as being their most popular experience,

Geysir erupting
Strokkur erupting

the Golden Circle TourThis was a fun full day event that permitted us to visit  many of the highlights of the country including the Geysir Hot Springs where we saw  the famous Strokkur erupt.

Throughout our visit to this country, we saw few trees but plenty of steam coming out from the ground caused by the country’s volcanic and geothermal activity. We were told by one guide that the inhabitants were more than a little spoiled by their seemingly unlimited energy resources. In fact, this individual told us that he regularly left all of his lights on in his house at all hours and would turn the hot water on in his shower and come back 15 minutes to take the shower.

Gullfoss Waterfall, considered to be the queen of Icelandic waterfalls, was beautiful to see and we also found it fascinating to view the separation of the tectonic plates between North American and European tectonic plates located in historic Pingvellir National Park.

This was a great trip that, in just a small number of days, gave us such a big travel experience. We flew back to the United States with a wealth of memories. Thanks Robert for a wonderful birthday!
