This month marked my husband’s special birthday. So what better place to celebrate this milestone event then in our favorite travel destination, Manhattan?

There are, of course, many, many New York City restaurants that could have provided a nice ambiance as well as good food, but Robert wanted to bring our families together in a beautiful, more intimate surrounding where there would be no need to walk around a back room or shout over a large table.

So after an intensive search, I found a wonderful choice: one of the recently renovated Tower Corner Suites at the New York Palace Hotel.  Located in what was formerly known as the famous Helmsley Palace  between 50th Street and Madison Avenue, our suite was approximately 1,250 square feet and oozed elegance as well as an amazing view of St. Patrick’s Cathedral and the beautiful lit Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center. The separate Towers entrance also made it easy for our guests to find us.

This location was further party ready because it had two bathrooms, a huge living room, a cozy kitchen with a marble counter to place our food, a dining table, and lots of places to sit. The entry way was also more than wide enough for a wheelchair bound relative to travel through, and the huge coat closet was stacked with over thirty hangers as well as plenty of storage room for gifts and luggage.

The price? After discounts and deals and deciding to hold the party on a Sunday instead of a preferred Saturday, I paid what could still be considered a bit pricey: about $1,100.00 before taxes. But this was a one time special event and it proved to be an amazing party venue that really wowed all of our family members.

And, of course, quite a swanky place just to stay the night.

The next day, Robert and I continued his celebration by getting up early to see the Christmas Tree at Rockefeller Center. The distance from the hotel was so short, that we easily avoided the usual crushing crowds that would be coming there later that day.

Wonderful time! Thanks New York Palace!
