Lat May I had a great time attending this year’s BookExpo America. Although this huge publishing convention used to travel to different major U.S. cities, for some time now its annual location has been inside Manhattan’s Javits Center.
As always, there were many, many great finds this year including the following for those of us who like good food and taking a look at fascinating maps:

Marcus Off Duty
By Marcus Samuelsson with Roy Finamore
Publisher: Houghton Mifflin Harcourt
Estimated Publication Date: October 21, 2014
ISBN: 978-0-470-94058-7
This colorful book contains many great recipes that this award winning chef says he cooks at home. Samuelsson notes that his favorite falafel place in Manhattan is Mamoun’s in Greenwich Village, but he hates the long wait. So he created a wonderful Spicy Shrimp Falafel recipe. Other dishes include Fish Burger with Bajan Mayo as well as Shrimp & Pork Dumplings.

By Mark Bittman
How to Cook Everything Fast
By Mark Bittman
Estimated Publication Date: October 7, 2014
ISBN: 978-0-470-93630-6
I enjoy reading Mark Bittman’s New York Times pieces on cooking and this huge easy to read book contains fast wonderful recipes including Sesame Chicken and Snow Peas as well as (yay!) Chocolate Chunk Banana Cupcakes.

Great Maps
By Jerry Brotton
DK Smithsonian
Estimated Publication Date: September 2014
ISBN: 978-1-4654-2463-1
This lovely book explores more than 60 maps which are analyzed in depth. Included are a map of New England in 1677; Dr. Livingstone’s 1873 map of Africa; and the first map of America which was created in 1507.
