Yaddo is rolling out the welcome mat in September for guided public tours of the Yaddo estate in Saratoga Springs for the first time in three years and only the sixth time in our history.
The setting that has inspired thousands of artists for a century, such as Aaron Copland, Sylvia Plath, Langston Hughes, Truman Capote, Lisa Cholodenko, Leonard Bernstein, Michael Cunningham, Jacob Lawrence, John Cheever, Doris Kearns Goodwin, Alice Walker, Jonathan Lethem, Mario Puzo, Amy Tan, Martin Puryear, Susan Orlean, and many other creative individuals.
All tours will include the 55-room Yaddo Mansion, completed in 1893; West House, the second largest residential building on the Yaddo property; and our newest artists’ work space, the Greenhouse Studios, which opened last fall. The 45,000-square-foot mansion is itself a work of art, with magnificent stained glass windows
and a collection of turn-of-the-century artwork and furniture.
Four tours will be offered September 21: 8:30 and 11 a.m. and 1:30 and 4 p.m. Tickets are $50. In addition, on September 20, Yaddo President Elaina Richardson will host an exclusive “Deluxe Tour,” open to just 50 guests who will be treated to a cocktail reception as well as a guided tour with extra stops. “Deluxe Tour” tickets are $250.
Admission is by advance purchase only on Yaddo’s website at http://www.yaddo.org/, where you will find additional information about the tours.
No tickets will be sold the day of the event
