St. Kitts History and Culture: Brimstone Hill Fortress, Romney Manor, Spice Mill, and Carambola

During my press trip to the St. Kitts Marriott Resort, I had the opportunity to see much of the island’s culture and history.

On the third day, my group traveled to Brimstone Hill Fortress. This 800-foot high UNESCO World Heritage Site  offers great views of the island and sea.

Then, as we traveled to our next destination, we passed Timothy Hill. Wow!

We were told that this is the only spot in the Caribbean that you can see both the Atlantic Ocean (left side) and the Caribbean Sea (right side).

Our next stop was historic Romney Manor. Once owned by Thomas Jefferson’s ancestor, this has become a popular wedding destination where we learned of the ancient Indonesian art of batik garment creation.

All of this built up an appetite, and I was happy to have lunch at the beautiful Spice Mill. This beachfront restaurant is said to pay tribute to the region’s Amerindian inhabitants.  Straight ahead from our view was Nevis.

After sampling fresh seafood we took a dip in the Caribbean Sea. Great!

This was a wonderful day only to be topped by our last dinner together at the magical Carambola Restaurant. This upscale restaurant is located on the pristine beach of St. Friars. We were told that the owner will be building a helipad to further accommode customers.

I woke up early the next morning  to catch the plane to Miami. I opened the  curtains of my room to view this beautiful site.
