Sick on the Road-ways to cure some common travel ailments

Getting sick while traveling away from home is a reasonable fear for many of us.

Check out an interesting article written by Christine  Negroni of the New York Times about dealing with these concerns.

While we are cautioned to not disregard signs of serious medical problems, she lists some novel ways to treat some common forms of travel sicknesses with remedies that you could find in a grocery store in many parts of the world:

1) Digestive problems such as constipation or heartburn: Chewing sugar-free gum

2) Nausea: Chewing ginger root

3) Bugs and bites: Burnt coffee grounds as a barrier; hot water for itchy bites; ice for bee stings

4) Eye problems: Baby shampoo may help eye infections or irritated eyes

5) Cuts and burns:Sugar can double as an antibacterial treatment because it draws fluids out.

I’ve tried candied pieces of ginger before for stomach upset or nausea. I’ve found them at the vegetable section of our local supermarkets, and its worked for me.
