NYC:Terracotta Warriors and Their Original Bright Colors

The Terracotta Warriors Exhibit at NYC’s Discovery Times Square is ending soon. Click here to get more info about tickets.

I enjoyed visiting this exhibit because I was able to view up close several of the life-size statues that were buried to guard the tomb of  China’s first emperor Qin Shihuangdi. So close in fact, I could see a bit of the original pigment that was used to color the statues.

I recently ran across a great article that was published in the June 2012 issue of National Geographic Magazine. Entitled, Terracotta Army: True Colors, it shows you how archaeologists and artists, armed with the latest tools and techniques, are bringing that ancient vision back to life. The piece provides pictures of how the Terracotta Warriors were originally painted in reds and greens, purples and pinks.

Also included are over 200 treasures and artifacts from ancient China.
