I’ve already mentioned the beginning of our trip to New Mexico that Robert and I had taken a few of weeks ago.
After we’d arrived in Taos, New Mexico and had checked into our room at the Historic Taos Inn, we started out on foot to see the sites. It wasn’t hard because of the Inn’s central location in this city’s historic district.
Click here to see a map of Taos. Established between 1780 and 1800, this area has a wonderful collection of adobe homes, five museums, numerous art galleries and many unique shops.

This city also has its share of historical buildings, and Robert and I had the opportunity to visit the home of the legendary Kit Carson. Click here to learn more about this man’s extraordinary life.
All of that exploring made us hungry so we were happy to walk across the street from the Inn to Graham’s Grille where we had been invited for dinner.

We had read the wonderful reviews for the dishes prepared by chef /owner Lesley B. Fay and we were looking forward to dining there.
Once inside, we were greeted by Chef Fay’s charming husband Peter who showed us to our seats and then provided us with menus filled with an impressive selection of creative dishes.
Gluten-free meals have been a big focus of mine ever since I had discovered that my daughter, Sarah has this allergy. So I was naturally happy to see that a significant percentage of the dishes listed were gluten-free.
The reviews were more than accurate. Robert and I enjoyed our meals and I especially loved my lamb sliders. And then on to the desserts. Wow! Robert splurged with a maple sugar ice cream, and I had a slice of a terrific pumpkin cheese cake.
Chef Faye has also written a cookbook, “Straight from the Heart.” I’ve started to try these recipes including the southwestern black bean felafel mix.
I think I’m next going to try her Southwestern take on an old favorite-macaroni and cheese but with green chile and smoked bacon.
My thanks to Jeanne Kitzman, Tourism Coordinator for the Town of Taos for her wonderful help with our visit.
Thanks so much Jeanne!
Next: Amazing llama adventure down the Rio Grande Gorge and onto Albuquerque’s Hotel Andaluz.

Nice article on Taos, but one correction. It was established long before 1780. Taos Pueblo has been inhabited for more than 1,000 years, and the Spanish established themselves in Taos in the 1500s.

Hi Ann. Sorry if I was confusing. I think I was referring to the Historic downtown district which I believe was established during that time period. Check out http://www.nps.gov/nr/travel/amsw/sw45.HTM.
