The National Geographic Museum has organized what looks to be a fascinating exhibit entitled “America I Am:The African American Imprint.” This is what the museum says about this show:
Take a journey through trials and triumphs while exploring nearly 500 years of African American contributions to the development of the United States. Experience 12 galleries filled with 200 poignant artifacts, including the Doors of No Return from the Cape Coast Castle in Ghana, Frederick Douglas’sbill of sale, the arrest card of Rosa Parks, Michael Jordan’s jersey, and Prince’s guitar.
February 2, 2011 – May 1, 2011

Sounds worthwhile and very interesting. We’re actually going next year, but I wish we could see this exhibit. I wish DC was a quick weekend jaunt, but it isn’t (bummer), even on Amtrak.

Southwest Airlines can have some pretty cheap deals to the Baltimore airport which is about a 45 minute shuttle ride to DC. The flight from Albany to Baltimore is relatively short (usually around an hour). If you take the 6:00 am flight to DC and a late flight back to Albany, you would have the whole day to see this exhibit and much more.
