The New York Times had an interesting article warning traveling parents to beware of buying gifts out of guilt.
Entitled, What Gift to Bring a Child?” and written by Liz Galst, the article talks about how some gifts can help create a moment of emotional connection with your child when you come home from a long trip.
Experts are quoted as recommending that, if gifts are given, bring back a small item that’s related to the visit. One mother brings her daughter back teddy bears with the names opf the cities that she’s been to.
Other experts say, though, that a kid can develop an expectation that they’re entitled to a gift everytime a parent goes away.
