Last Monday found me in Washington, DC where I visited a wonderful exhibit at the National Gallery of Art-“Arcimboldo-Nature and Fantasy.”

Considered by some to be the father of surrealism, this 16th century Italian artist painted portraits of heads that were actually composites of all forms of nature including fish, vegetables and plants. Included in this collection of 16 works are reversible pictures that have a special trick-they look like paintings of roasted meats or platters of vegetables , but when you view them upside down through the aid of a mirror, you see that they are actually comical portraits of people.
Admission is free. Click here for more information including a detailed brochure of the exhibit and a video.
