Tim Gunn and Rachel Zoe’s Crushing Appearance

After meeting the contestants of Project Runway during Fashion’s Night out last Friday, Sarah and I waited to meet Tim Gunn who was signing his new book at the Kate Spade store in Soho.

This was now later that night, and I was a surprised to see how crowded the area had become. There really was almost no room to walk around. As we passed the pop- up store where the Project Runway stars had partied, we saw a crowd of people eagerly waiting for Rachel Zoe’s arrival. The well dressed security guards seemed to have this grand plan that no one was allowed on the sidewalk in front of the store and that Rachel would be driven down the street toward the store, stop in front  and would then get out to make a grand entrance.

I don’t think anyone anticipated the aggressiveness of the crowds, though. Security kept shouting to stay off the sidewalk, stop blocking the street in front of the store and, unbelievably,to even make a a foot wide lane for Rachel to walk down. I started to feel uneasy about the whole situation and tried to move away, but there was nowhere to go. Sarah and I were blocked by the crowd and on coming cars, right in the front of where Rachel was to arrive.

Then the black vehicle came down the street, and the crowd went wild. I was inches away from the car and I could see Rachel from her window. She didn’t look scared-she looked terrified! A man came to her, tried to soothe her by telling her that it would be all right, and escorted her to the sidewalk to have her picture taken before she entered the store.

The crowd started surging towards her and then I really became frightened that Sarah and I would get crushed. I glared at one of the security men and yelled in as affirmative a voice as possible “Sir, we are going to be crushed! You will let us let on the sidewalk nowww!! I don’t know if I scared him or just simply surprised him but, somehow, that did the trick and he let us on. I then got one them to help us get across the street.

By then the area had become too crowded to handle, so we spotted the nearest subway stop and took a train back towards our hotel.  We ate a late dinner at Ruby Foos and looked at our photographs of the exciting day.
