New Schedule of Culinary Institute Cooking Courses-Including Gluten-Free Baking

Check out the new cooking courses that are being offered at the Culinary Institute of American (CIA) in Hyde Park, NY.

Yes, these courses can get relatively expensive-$250.00 for a one day course that goes from 9:30am to 2:30 pm . However, there’s one that really interests me in particular. We recently found out that a member of my family is allergic to gluten related food and, like a lot of people, we’ve been trying out all sorts gluten-free baked goods that are, frankly, not cheap. I think that the common price for a loaf of gluten-free loaf of bread is $8.00!

On November 6, 2010,  the CIA will be offering the course,  Gluten-Free Baking for the Holidays. This is what the CIA says about this course:

The holidays are a time for indulging, even for those with dietary restrictions. If you’re unable to digest wheat-based products due to allergies, prepare yourself for a holiday season full of delicious, fresh-baked treats. In this class, you will learn how to create a sampling of gluten-free goodies, from stollen and cookies to pies, tarts, and cakes. Your guests will have no idea that you used products such as rice flour, soy flour, potato starch, and tapioca in place of wheat flour. Come and enjoy the pleasure of fresh-baked sweets – just in time for the holidays.

As a participant in this class, you’ll receive a copy of Gluten-Free Baking and a CIA logo apron to take home.

I think that of I could learn to better bake gluten-free baked goods, it would make my relative happy and, hopefully, save money in the long run.
