Most of us know that defensive driving courses have benefits beyond teaching us to be a better driver.

1) Once the course is successfully completed, you receive a 10 percent reduction in the price of the base rate of your motorcycle or car liability and collision insurance. You receive this reduction each year for three years.

2) You also receive a reduction of up to four points from your New York state driving record.

So what keeps us from running to take this type of course? Beyond the cost, many of us just don’t have the time or inclination to sit in a class room for six hours straight or to attend two three-hour classes.
